CLASS RUNS 12/23/22 TO 1/13/23 ONLINE
Webcam, Microphone; high speed internet needed for online test-taking
Platform: Canvas
Registration begins Monday, October 3, 2022

This course is relevant to students of many different majors and foci of study, ranging from Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Art History, Historic Preservation, American Studies, and more! There are no prerequisites.

Class will run in the winter session from 12/23/22 - 1/13/23. It's an excellent opportunity to complete 1.5 credits in a short amount of time. The format is asynchronous, so students can work at their own pace as they meet weekly milestones. It covers what I call the "greatest hits" of New Jersey archaeology in 3 weeks. By the end of the course, students will learn about key sites that have been excavated over the last 150 years that contribute to our understanding of New Jersey's past. In a nutshell, the course is designed with the intention to connect students with local communities in New Jersey through the lens of archaeology.

Although class is held remotely, the course is structured as an imagined, thematic archaeological road trip of New Jersey.
Our tentative “itinerary” is as follows:
✴ The “Real” Jersey Shore: Archaeology along the New Jersey Coast
✴ A “Taste” of New Jersey: Archaeological Remnants of Food and Drink in New Jersey
✴ A (Not so?) Great Place to Live: Inside New Jersey’s Old Houses and Communities
✴ Made in New Jersey: A Look at Craft and Manufactured Things from New Jersey
✴ Town Spotlight: Urban Archaeology in New Brunswick
