Course Details

Course Description: Historical Archaeology covers the study of excavated and curated remains from any historic period during which written records were kept. It covers the period of European contact, world-wide, a time line that runs from 900-1850 AD and that is often compressed in the New World (America and the Caribbean) to refer to the period after the arrival of Columbus in 1492. As such, it provides an important new perspective on the construction of the past, that contrasts with the majority of other Rutgers archaeological courses that do not use written sources but rely entirely on inferences drawn from field and laboratory observations.
