Course Description: Differing conceptualizations of children as a socially relevant category or identity. Influence of culture, language, and history on meanings and social realities pertaining to ideas of childhood and what these reveal about social order, social change and power dynamics. Western notions of children as innocent; understanding childhood under conditions of forced migration, poverty and war; children as marginalized street workers and child-soldiers.  Prerequisite: 01:070:101 or 01:070:108
