Course Description: This class will focus on the ecological diversity of primates and how these and other traits are related to their present day abundance and distribution. This course will introduce you to the diversity, distribution, and abundance of nonhuman primates. We will use principles from the field of conservation biology to examine the biological, abiotic and anthropogenic factors related to primate extinction risk. Specifically, we will examine the various threats facing primate populations today, the ways that scientists define and monitor threatened/endangered populations, and the steps that are being taken to increase the likelihood of their survival. Prerequisite: 01:070:102 or 01:070:204 or permission of instructor.
